Privacy

What this site
keeps track of.

In plain language, no legal jargon. In short: this site sets no cookies, sells nothing on, and counts numbers, not people.

No cookies

This site sets no cookies at all. That is why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing to accept or refuse.

The only thing kept in your browser is your language choice, NL or EN, so you do not have to make it again on every visit. That choice stays on your own device and never reaches a server.

Visitor numbers

Matteo wants to know how many people look at his site, and what they look at. For that the page sends three short signals: one when it loads, one when you leave, and one when you click a link that leads elsewhere.

What goes along: which site you came from (the domain name only, for example "instagram.com", never the full link), how wide your screen is (phone, tablet or computer), which language the site was in, which parts of the page you saw, how long you stayed, and whether you clicked through to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, a sponsor or a video.

What is not kept: your IP address, your browser details, and nothing that could be used to find you again later. To tell whether you already dropped by today, the server makes a one-way code out of your IP address, your browser, today’s date and a secret word. That code lives for one day and disappears with it — tomorrow you produce a different code, so you cannot be followed across days. The code also never travels to the place where Matteo reads the numbers; there are only totals there.

The contact form

If you send a message, your name, your email address and your message are kept where Matteo manages his site. An email also goes out to him so he sees it quickly. That information is only there so he can reply: no newsletter, no advertising, and it does not go to anyone else.

To keep spam out, the form carries a Cloudflare check (Turnstile). It looks at your browser to judge whether you are human; Cloudflare sees your IP address in the process. No cookies are set for it and it is not used to follow you across other sites. The server also checks that the form was not filled in too fast and that a hidden field stayed empty. Three messages an hour are allowed from the same address; for that a one-way code of your IP address is kept, not the address itself.

Want your message deleted? Ask, and it goes.

Who else sees anything

This site does not run on its own. These are all the parties that get to see something, and what exactly:

  • Netlify — delivers this page to your browser, and runs the contact form and the counter.
  • Sanity — holds the content of the site, and is where messages from the form end up.
  • Google (Gmail) — sends the email that tells Matteo a message has arrived. Your name, email address and message pass through Google for that.
  • Google Fonts — the two typefaces are fetched from Google. Your browser contacts Google to do that, and Google sees your IP address in the process.
  • YouTube — the video preview images come from YouTube’s servers, so the same applies there. No video is embedded in the page itself: click a video and you go to YouTube, where their rules apply.
  • Cloudflare — the check on the contact form that tells whether you are human. It only comes into play when you view the form.

Some of those companies are based outside the European Union. Nothing is passed to any of them for advertising.

How long it is kept

The visitor numbers stay as totals — nobody is in them. The daily visitor codes disappear after one day.

Messages from the form stay until Matteo deletes them.

Your rights

You can always ask what data there is about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. In practice that means a message you sent yourself — there is nothing else.

Ask through the form on the site, or by DM on Instagram.
